About this Site

This site serves as an introduction to the changing world of health insurance and health care providers in the United States. It is authored by Bruce Gourley, an historian, entrepreneur, journalist and writer who views basic health care as a human rights issue.

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare (but based on a 1990s-era Republican health care plan), Bruce and his family now have the best health insurance they have ever had. No longer do they worry about cancer or some other major illness forcing them into bankruptcy due to the unscrupulous practices of health insurance corporations.

This is not to say that Bruce does not hold out hope that the ACA is a step towards a single-payer health care system. But for now, he rejoices that millions of Americans who formerly could not afford health insurance, are now insured.
